Heading to Seattle

We're wrapping up things here in Michigan and are now headed to Seattle for a week before we return home to Albuquerque for the whole month of September. I can't wait to get back to my house!

I've been working on a couple of pieces here in Michigan. I'll post one today, the other I'll finish as soon as I get off the computer.

"Alone Again", a 9x12" original watercolor.

I like the humor of this one. It makes me happy anyway.

I'm exploring some different topics at the moment and am getting ready to do some close-ups of horses, cows, cowboys, rodeos, etc. I grew up on a farm in Oklahoma and I do love all things country, it's true. I have about 5000 photos of the Seattle area but don't enjoy painting the water and mountain scenes...green mountains anyway. I think I'm addicted to the desert now.

Cactus View, 5x7" original watercolor

I'm in Michigan for a couple of weeks where my husband is working for his company. I'm counting the days down to when we can get back home. 17 days before we get in the car and drive to Albuquerque, where we'll get to spend about 5 or 6 weeks before I head back to Michigan to join my husband again.

The whole month of September I'm going to enjoy, enjoy, enjoy and celebrate my 50th birthday by hiking, shopping, visiting with my kids and friends, and taking a couple of nice trips to Ghost Ranch.
This artist is so amazing. His name is John Bramblitt and he's a blind artist. Watch this great documentary type film on John's work.

Below are a few of his pieces:

Blue Skies Over Ghost Ranch

13x17" original watercolor of the hills around Ghost Ranch where Georgia O'Keeffe's home was. This painting is a bit more intense and I like the colors a lot. The hills in that area of New Mexico are just breathtaking--bands of yellow and magenta, burnt sienna and rust. Just lovely to behold. Click on photo for a close up view. Available at Boundless Gallery.
Oh boy, oh boy. One of my favorite art stores was having a huge sidewalk sale this week. I've visited them three times and come away with a new portfolio bag, 9 watercolor pads of varying sizes, tracing paper, brushes, oh my! Life is great...especially when you have new art supplies.

The Hills

The Hills. Original 13x17" unframed piece, shipped flat. Available at Boundless Gallery. This is one of my favorite works this year. The subject is the hills around Abiquiu, New Mexico where Georgia O'Keffe lived and worked for decades. The hills truly are outrageously colored. Click on photo for a close up view.
